This page is a culmination of my learning throughout the Developing Effective Professional Leadership course at Lamar University.
Self-Grading Score and Reflection- 92
The What?
Throughout the duration of this course, I have engaged in multiple learning activities and research to collaborate effectively and contribute to my own learning growth and development. During the reflection of my progress, I have learned to recognize what I currently do that is effective and the growth of others that require further improvement.
The How?
My participation included contributing to class discussion boards by posting at least once and responding to at least two other members of the class. I read through each post with an open mind and contributed constructive feed-forward. After reading and responding to posts, I would revisit my own work to make changes that would positively change what I was presenting in class as well as to my JMS staff members. I would also reflectively read the comments under my own post and implement those changes as well. Once most of my course was built out, I had a few of the staff go through and see what improvements could be made to ensure that learning could take place for everyone.
To truly enhance my collaboration, I participated in two different GroupMe chats. The first was a larger group that encompassed both ADL and EdTech students. In this group, I learned for the ADL students that all work will build upon each other from all classes, not to stress about not having a fully complete project. This is a work in progress; even after presenting the professional learning to the stakeholders it is built for. Also, within this group, we contributed to Harapnuik-type grading practices to make sure we all could receive the most points possible within the course. This feed-forward helped all members build a strong portfolio that rounds out the full Innovation plan. The second group was smaller and consisted of 5 other members: Ashley M., Lisa H., Lori B., Sarah E., and Whitney D. This group communicated frequently to lean on each other to build effective projects and have strong submissions. All projects were discussed and presented for usability on a computer as well as on a mobile device.
Contribution to Learning
A key contribution I made in this course was presenting a new type of professional learning to my current leadership team to create a more effective professional learning environment around blended learning. During this presentation, I was able to present what I have seen across the campus with the LMS and how the initial PL for this platform was presented in a very ineffective manner. Being able to present the consistent challenges that our current staff have been facing since that short and haphazard PL has opened the eyes of my administration, and they are looking to move forward with a more effective professional learning model to help the staff move forward in their contribution to student learning.
These active administration discussions helped me recognize where I need to improve and or upgrade the information that will be presented. I can also build my capacity for APA citation formatting, both in text and in the reference section.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, my contributions to this course have been meaningful, and I have truly gained insights about collaboration, leadership, engagement, and longevity within education. As I continue through the rest of my schooling and in the distant future, I will always approach everything with an open mind to broaden my network and build my capacity for professional growth in both the tech field and in education.
